On April 28, 2016, the Supreme Court ordered that National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) will be held from the current session (2016).



Ques: Will the NEET exam be applicable for admissions in 2016-2017?
Ans: Yes, as per the Supreme Court order, this change will affect  admissions in the current year as well.

Ques: What is NEET Phase 1 and NEET Phase 2?
Ans: NEET 1 is the name given to the AIPMT exam, which will be held as per schedule on 1st May, 2016. NEET 2 will be held for left out students on 24th July, 2016

Ans: NEET 1 is the name given to the AIPMT exam, which will be held as per schedule on 1st May, 2016. NEET 2 will be also held for all students on 24th July, 2016.


Ques: Who can apply and sit for NEET Phase 2 exam?
Ans: As per the current notification, NEET Phase 2 exam will be conducted for those (left-out) students who have not applied for AIPMT 2016. If you have already applied for AIPMT, you will sit for NEET Phase 1, and cannot apply for NEET Phase 2.

Ans: As per the current notification, NEET Phase 2 exam will be conducted for ALL students even those who have not applied for AIPMT 2016. If you have already appeared for NEET Phase 1, and want to attempt  NEET Phase 2 you will have to cancel your NEET Phase 1 scores.

Ques: I have already applied for AIPMT. Can I give NEET Phase 2?
Ans: No, as per the current order, the NEET Phase 2 exam is only for "left-out" students, which means that students who have already applied for AIPMT cannot apply for NEET Phase 2.

Ans: Yes, as per the current order, the NEET Phase 2 exam is all the students, but if you attempt NEET Phase 2 your scores for NEET Phase 1 will not be considered in final admissions.

Ques: Which exams are included in NEET and which exams are not included in NEET?

Ans: As per the Supreme Court order, all the state level and private college entrance exams have been scrapped and replaced with the common exam NEET. The order states that admissions to MBBS/BDS throughout the country will be done through NEET.

Ques: What about admission in Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir?
Ans: The admissions in these states will happen through NEET only. 

Ques: What about admission in CMC Vellore, JIPMER and AIIMS?
Ans: AIIMS exam has not been scrapped and will happen as per schedule. We are constantly in touch with the authorities and inform our students as soon as any information is received. Until then consider that exam will happen as per schedule.


Ques: What will be the syllabus for NEET?
Ans: Though there is no official notification about this so far, the NEET exam is replacing the AIPMT exam. Hence it is assumed that the pattern and syllabus for NEET will be the same as that for AIPMT.

Ques: What if I have not applied for AIPMT? 
Ans: If you have not applied for AIPMT, you can apply for NEET Phase 2. We are still awaiting details from the official CBSE / MCI website about the same.

Update: 
The Supreme Court has refused to entertain the Centre's plea to postpone the NEET Phase 1 exam and to hold only one exam on July 24. The Supreme Court has ordered that two exams will be held as decided by the court on 28th April, 2016

  • Andra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka and Mahrashtra are likely to oppose this decision
  • Telangana EAMCET exam has been postponed to third week of May - though final date has not been declared
  • Central government has now approached the Supreme Court to allow states to hold their exams this year as it is too late
  • The Central government has also requested that only one exam for NEET to be held on 24th July, instead of the 2 phases as decided by the current order.
